St. Robert
The closest town to post, with shopping and restaurants along Route 66 and I-44.
Our local specialists know every neighborhood, every street, and every school.
St. Robert is the town right outside Fort Leonard Wood's main gate, in Pulaski County. Much of the area's shopping, restaurants and services line Route 66 and I-44 through town, and Waynesville, the county seat, is next door to the west.
For a family on orders, St. Robert's draw is simple: it is the closest you can live to post off the installation.
St. Robert grew up with Fort Leonard Wood. When the Army built the post in 1940, a civilian town took shape outside its main gate to serve it, with stores, diners and services for the soldiers and the families who followed them. It was incorporated as a city in 1951.
The town grew with each generation of the post, through Korea, Vietnam and the decades since. Today Fort Leonard Wood is home to the Army's Maneuver Support Center of Excellence, which trains engineers, military police and chemical soldiers, and St. Robert still lives alongside it. Flags fly along Route 66, and the community supports the soldiers, veterans and families around it.
